The Nene is the only native goose to the islands and is an endangered species.  Almost reaching extinction, this beautiful bird has been increasing in population over the years.  Thought to be a relative to the Canadian Goose, the Nene was named the official state bird when Hawaii became a state in 1959. On Kauai , the best places to spot one is either Kokee State Park or by the Kilauea Lighthouse.  They are an excellent photo opportunity!
